Veli-Pekka Nurmi
Senior Vice President of Safety & Security, Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO)
Dr Veli-Pekka Nurmi began his engineering career at Imatran Voima Oy in 1986, where he worked as a trainee, completed his master’s thesis, and later served as a reliability engineer. Over the course of his career, Dr. Nurmi has held several senior leadership positions across the Finnish energy sector and public administration. These include Director at the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (TUKES), CEO of Tampereen Sähkölaitos, and Executive Director of the Finnish Safety Investigation Authority (OTKES). Since 2022, he has been responsible for overseeing safety and security at TVO-Group.
Dr. Nurmi holds a Master of Science in Technology (1988) and a Doctor of Science in Technology (2001). Since 2006, he has also served as an associate professor in the field of safety and safety management of electric power systems at Tampere University. A consistent theme throughout his more than 30-year career has been leading organizations through change. His professional background combines deep technical expertise with decades of strategic leadership in safety-critical environments.
